BarRemote
Privacy Policy
Effective date: July 18, 2026
BarRemote is a macOS menu bar app for controlling Samsung Smart TVs on your local network. It is built to be private by design: the app does not collect, store, transmit, or share any personal data.
Data collection
BarRemote collects no data of any kind. Specifically, it contains:
- No analytics or telemetry
- No advertising or tracking identifiers
- No user accounts or sign-in
- No crash reporting services
- No third-party SDKs
What stays on your Mac
To remember your TVs between launches, the app stores a small list of the devices you add (their name, IP address, and MAC address) locally on your Mac using macOS user defaults. This information never leaves your computer and is deleted when you remove the device from the app or uninstall the app.
Network activity
The app communicates only with the Samsung TVs on your local Wi-Fi network, using Samsung's local device API. It makes no connections to the internet: there are no servers of ours, no cloud services, and no remote endpoints of any kind.
Third parties
No data is shared with third parties, because no data is collected in the first place.
Children's privacy
The app does not collect data from anyone, including children.
Changes to this policy
If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date.
